This was a free course by Acumen (a global non-profit that raises charitable donations to invest in companies, leaders, and ideas that are changing the way the world tackles poverty).

SCR supports Uplift: 2015

Uplift project is a Rotary sponsored program which basically involves collecting used (or new) bras to send to women in developing countries who don't have access to quality bras. In many regions second hand bras are cheap enough, but rarely available. A new bra, if available at all, can cost 10-30 hours wages.

SMALLER WORLD II,THE GNABP GROUP 2013-2014

WHAT IS SMALLER WORLD?

Smaller world is a Mega twin-clubs program inspired by Rotaract Club of Alexandria East from Egypt last Rotaract year 2012/2013 and initiated along with four Rotaract clubs around the world: Rotaract Club of Nicosia Aspelia from Cyprus, Rotaract Club of Las Americas from Guatemala, Rotaract Club of Manila Metro from Philippines and Rotaract Club of Moscow East from Russia.

GOALS OF THE PROJECT?

– To emphasize the international aspect of Rotaract service and friendship.

Thailand Water Project and Visit

One of the six initiatives that Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation promote worldwide is the provision of clean drinking water. Children living in remote rural areas of north east Thailand do not have access to clean drinking water which creates health issues resulting in loss of school days and non completion of school studies.

International Aid Project 2013: Nepal

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world with over 57% of its population living on less than US$2 per day.  It is landlocked between China & India, and with its mountainous topography it has insufficient infrastructure making it difficult to overcome this cycle of poverty.  Currently 60% of roads in Nepal become inoperable during the wet season and 63% of households do not have access to electricity.

Polio Plus

The Sydney City Rotaract has been an avid supporter of the Rotary goal to eradicate Polio.

After 25 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this tenacious disease, but a strong push is needed now to root it out once and for all. It is a window of opportunity of historic proportions.

Reaching the ultimate goal of a polio-free world presents ongoing challenges, not the least of which is a US$535 million funding gap through 2012. This is where the Sydney City Rotaract Club, and it’s goal to raise $50,000.00 towards the cause comes in!

Local Community

RAWCS Donations in Kind (DIK)

Donations in Kind (DIK) is a program supported by Rotary Clubs in Australia which grew out of the compassion and concern of returning overseas volunteers. This recycling and reuse program involves the collection, sorting, packing, dispatch and distribution of donated items to countries in need of these goods.

Blood Donations

Did you know that currently 1 in 3 Australians need blood, yet only 1 in 30 donates? Every week Australia needs over 27,000 blood donations. Sydney City Rotaract helps out the Australian Red Cross by organising quarterly blood donations followed by a social dinner. It's a great way to catch up with fellow Rotaractors while doing something good for the community.

Youth Homelessness

Imagine finding yourself homeless and then feeling as though you have no one to turn to.  Many young Australian’s find themselves in this exact situation with 46% of homeless Australian’s being under the age of 24 and 10% under the age of 12 years old.  In NSW alone there was over 13,000 homeless youths under the age of 24 in 2006.

Stepping Stone House

Stepping Stone House is a house for homeless teenagers who through no fault of their own find themselves unable to live at home. It is an accredited out-of-home-care residential service providing medium to long term accommodation.

- Share ideas and develop a global perspective

Social Networking

Weekend Away

Being a Rotaractor is a lot of fun, but it can also be a lot of hard work! On any given week, you can be painting a homeless shelter, running a barbeque, arranging guest speakers or attending a ball.

Once a year, the Sydney City Rotaract Club likes to take a weekend away from it, retiring briefly to calm and peaceful locations in order to unwind, discuss the future of the club and, most importantly, to learn more about each other and become better friends.

Newcomers

Are you new to Sydney? Do you want to find out whats on in Sydney?

If you are looking to meet other Sydney young professionals, then why not come along to a Sydney City Rotaract meeting or social event.  Guests are welcome and it is up to you if you are interested in joining.

Social Dinners & movie nights

Sydney City Rotaract is a very social club and we often like to catch up for dinner and drinks.  We are extremely fortunate to be based in the Sydney CBD and therefore are only a short walk from great restaurants and bars.  The dinners can either be formal or informal and a great opportunity to socialize with other club members.
